When your iPhone is charging, a lightning bolt appears on the battery icon in the status bar, or a large battery icon is displayed on the lock screen.
If you don't see the charging icons
- Connect your iPhone to a USB charging cable (preferably the cable that came with your iPhone).
- Plug the cable into one of the following power sources:
- A USB power adapter plugged into a working wall outlet. It is recommended to use the USB power adapter that came with your iPhone. Learn more about Apple USB power adapters.
- A USB port that supports USB 2 or later technology, on a powered-on computer that is not in sleep mode.
- A powered USB hub, docking station, or other Apple-certified accessory.
If your iPhone still won't charge
- Try using a different power adapter or charging cable.
- Make sure your iPhone is neither too hot nor too cold. Keep your iPhone within the appropriate operating temperatures.
Force restart your iPhone
If your iPhone still won't charge, force it to restart.
For an iPhone without a Home button
- Quickly press the volume button closest to the top button.
- Quickly press the volume button farthest from the top button.
- Press and hold the top button until the iPhone restarts.
For an iPhone with a Home button
Press and hold both the top (or side) button and the Home button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.
